Hi Everyone
I have had requests from both David and Karen that this course is done
more on-line. This is desirable but you guys will need to be more
sensitive in giving me time to put material up which means I cannot be
available simply when you are around. Currently it has been extremely
difficult with trying to give lectures, provide virtually individual
attention and provide support via the Weblog. I am absolutely fine with
going this option but here are the implications.
ON YOUR PART.....
a) Instructions must be read more carefully and adhered to more
strictly (e.g. when attaching a comment you use the tags <> and when
emailing a new article using GroupWise this must be complete with your
signature file, a subject that is in CAPITALS and that you used the
html view to send so that formatting and URLs are activated.
b) I will be available only from 11-12:30 Tuesday for you to
collect/return any DVD material that is required and for discussion -
otherwise I will only be available through the Weblog!
c) You must use the courseware content folder
http://planet.uwc.ac.za/nisl/Biodiversity/ to download most material
which will be organized into clearly identified folders (still to be
done by me, PDF, Docs, Chapters, HTML etc)
d) If material that is posted on the Weblog is not correctly formatted
it will deleted without notification!
e) If material is accidentally uploaded and needs to be removed you can
email me at my UWC email address (if it was not formatted properly you
do not need to let me know I will delete it!)
f) Recognize that a far more disciplined approach needs to be in place
and that I am disturbed less often!
g) Not all material will have narration added (it simply takes too
long!)
h) Recognize that you will need to find peer-reviewed material for your
assignments
i) Accept that material may be scanned for plagiarism
ON MY PART (PROVIDING I AM GIVEN MORE TIME)
a) Return comments on the Weblog where there is a clear question within
24 hours during normal office hours
b) Be available 11-12:30 Tuesdays
c) Provide dates on what needs to be done when
d) I will upload PDFs to the courseware content folder and you will
need to review this material (subdirectory PDF)
e) Provide Video (DVD) material physically on Tuesdays
f) Material that can be downloaded from the web will also be stored in
the courseware content folder http://planet.uwc.ac.za/nisl/Biodiversity
If you support this approach PLEASE confirm by attaching a comment
stating your acceptance of these conditions.
Thanks
Rich

Dear Dr. Knight
ReplyDeleteThis comment serves as confirmation of acceptance of the conditions set out in the Biodiversity course on-line.
Thank you for your consideration.
Cheers

Dear Richard
ReplyDeleteI accept the conditions and will do my best to adhere to them. I am looking forward to the content!
Regards,
Karen
Though am not very good at this form of learning i will do my best to adhere to them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for confirming this and in response to other suggestions we can meet every Tuesday 11am onwards as "class". As far as more face-to-face instruction (Vincent's suggestion) - I would rather defer on this. Online courses take a lot of time, and we either go online or do it more conventionally - a hybrid is not really feasible with respect to my own workloads.
ReplyDeleteIn the next week or two I will be getting the script for a calendar and that will greatly improve planning and management.
Cheers
Rich
Dear Dr. Knight, Karen and Vincent.
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned in my e-mails to all of you, I don't mind coming in for a class on Tuesday 18 April only, as this day I have free from work. All other days as mentioned earlier I cannot afford to be away from work in addition to the time already taken up by my other modules during the week. Vincent, I undersand your concerns about wanting direct access to the information through Dr. Knight at the UWC, however, I signed up for this course based on the reason that it was on-line, which allows me to do both studying and work at the same time. I really don't mind coming in next Tuesday, but the following Tuesdays I will not be. As long as the course work is accessible on-line at the same pace as your tuition every Tuesday, I am fine with it.

Hi Rich
ReplyDeleteI am trying my best for this learning method, believe me sometimes it is stressing especially when you don not achive whatever you want, because you are far and sometimes you are not responding to our emails and comments. I read the instruction and i went through the links: 'http://planet.uwc.ac.za/nisl/Biodiversity/'. I tried to open the video section but i was denied with the access and I am aware that we (Pretoria Learners) are left behind, other leaners from Cape Town had already watched the videos.
I will appreciate if you can help us.
i accept the conditions set out in the Biodiversity course on webblog.
ReplyDeletei understand what your trying to do,but student from pretoria cannot have the video to watch.
ReplyDeleteI accept the condtions.
ReplyDeleteThe DVD Material was for the Project. For the Pretoria Learners we will give you a test rather than a Project.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Rich
